Chinese Door Games and a Beautiful Wedding Ceremony // Ulysses Hotel & The Belvedere

Jiawen and Yang: A love story for the ages. The connection between these two seems effortless: every look makes their bond completely apparent, every interaction is graceful and harmonious, especially when they dance. Their wedding day was filled with high energy and emotion, with no detail overlooked. Some of my favorite memories are from the "Winning the Bride" game hijinks, which preceded the ceremony. Following tradition, Yang and his groomsmen had to meet every challenge thrown at them by Jiawen's bridesmaids, who were heavily guarding the Bride (Yang only occasionally resorted to the red envelope bribe)! No surprise, Yang finally prevailed and gained entrance to the bride's room at the Hotel Ulysses -- and his bride!

Guests anxiously gathered for the ceremony in the historic and richly appointed ballroom of the landmark Belvedere Hotel, with 20-foot ceilings draped in jewel-toned silk, offsetting twinkling chandeliers and a majestic stone fireplace anchoring the gorgeous space. The bride was stunning in a Lazaro shimmer tulle ball gown with sweetheart neckline, asymmetrical waterfall skirt, and chapel train. Like a princess, she seemed to step out of a magical fairy tale -- in fabulous white statement platform shoes! Her Prince Charming was quite dapper in a classic black tux with silk notch collar and waistcoat. The adorable ring bearer was none other than Momo, their much-adored red mini poodle, who proudly pranced down the aisle in an elegant white shimmer tiered dress to complement the bride.

Thereafter, the reception was held in the Palm Room, where everyone enjoyed the bride and groom's playful wedding shoe game and a spectacular surprise: when Jiawen serenaded Yang, wearing a romantic tulle embroidered gown with intricate floral embellishments and matching headpiece. Dancing capped off a picture-perfect wedding day.

I was also honored to document this amazing couple's portrait session at the Library of Congress, where they captivated all visitors that day. I invite you to view their session here
